Alberto Brings Heavy Rainfall, Flooding to South Texas

First Named Storm of 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season Makes Landfall

Alberto, the first named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, formed in the southern Gulf of Mexico and made landfall in Mexico near June 19, 2024 at 11:45 am.

The storm brought heavy rainfall to South Texas, causing widespread flooding. According to preliminary reports, the storm has claimed at least three lives in the region.

A rainstorm off the coast of Mexico, Alberto became a tropical depression on June 17, 2024. As the storm moved west-northwestward, it strengthened into a tropical storm and made landfall near the mouth of the Rio Grande River.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a tropical storm warning from Brownsville, Texas to Port Mansfield, Texas. The NHC warns of heavy rainfall and flooding, as well as possible storm surge. Residents in affected areas are urged to take precautions and follow instructions from local officials.
